Five Questions To Ask A Contractor

Not all general contractors will automatically tell you all the information you need without prompting. That doesn’t mean that you know what to ask. Doing your research and knowing what you want to hear from the person you hire will help you make a good decision.

Here are five questions that you should ask:

1. Are You Licensed?

Signs of an excellent general contractor are someone licensed, bonded, and insured. Not only is it the responsible thing to do, but it shows that they have put forth the needed effort for their job. Hiring a licensed contractor can supply you with educated-based services backed by a state license. It means that they have done the work and passed the test.

2. How Much Experience Do You Have?

Have you heard the saying, “Everyone has to start from somewhere”? The beginning of anyone’s career is a time of learning and experience. But, if you have a time-sensitive and important job that you want a contractor to perform for you, you want someone with experience. Someone who knows everything that needs to be done and the right way to get it done.

3. Do You Have References?

References are an excellent way for you to get the communities opinion of the contractor. Word of mouth is one of the best versions of advertisement a business can have. People will quickly relay to you when someone has given them less than satisfactory services.

4. Do You Carry Insurance?

You want to hire a general contractor that carries insurance on themselves. That way, if anything were to go wrong, they are covered. It protects the contractor from those unfortunate situations when something goes wrong or if a client is not satisfied with services.

5. What Is The Timeline For This Project?

You should know upfront that they will take 3-6 months to finish a job. You wouldn’t want to assume the project will be done and over within a couple of weeks, and it will take far longer than you expected. This will keep you from getting upset mid-project.
