The first thing that needs to be done is that shower and tub will need to be removed. Typically this involves using a sawzall to cut the bathtub liner and tub into manageable pieces that can easily be removed from your home. Your facet and any showerheads and glass doors you may have will also be removed during this process.

Electrical Lines

Most walk-in tubs will need an electrical line to operate, and your installer will need to run one. This is done by located an existing outlet on the wall adjacent to the tub. A new line can be run, and a GFI outlet is mounted to the motor of the walk-in tub. GFI outlets are used because they have a surge protector and are for your safety around water.

Prep Water and Drain Lines

The next step is making sure the water is turned off so the water and drain lines can be prepped for your new walk-in tub. This involves removing the existing connection to the tub and adding a new water connection. Next is turning the water back on and testing the connection.
