The Placerita Canyon Nature Center is located at 19152 Placerita Canyon Rd, Newhall CA 91321. Placerita is a canyon rich in cool, shady oak trees, a seasonal stream edged with willow and sycamore, and a variety of other fascinating plant and animal species. Through wild animal presentations, nature treks, and self-guided educational paths, the park works to maintain a portion of the natural environment, as well as inform the general public about the importance of preserving flora and fauna.

Placerita Canyon Nature Center is located within the Placerita Canyon State Park, on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is southeast of the city of Santa Clarita, just outside the city limits. Bordering Placerita Creek in the southeastern San Clarita Valley, the nature center is a part of Los Angeles county in Southern California.

The natural haven of the Placerita Canyon Nature Center has twelve miles of beautiful tree-lined trails to explore. The park has everything from short, leisurely paths that are less than half a mile long to more challenging trails that are over six miles long. Visitors are invited to attend the scheduled programs held regularly at the park, such as the Bird Walk and the Family Nature Walk. “Oak of the Golden Dream” is a historic landmark at the site, which is where California’s first gold discovery was made back in 1942.
